Hey guys! I thought we’d make a little post about how we go about making a collaborative comic! Here’s a step-by-step of our process!

First up is preliminary design work. Usually this is done for fun before the comic even starts because MAN MAKING CHARACTERS SURE IS FUN. Sfé created Weird Pets and all of the characters, but this particular story (“Not A Talking Dog”) also includes Trudeau, a character Kory created because we just cannot stop creating characters. Also Sfé specially designed all the outfits that the characters wear in Not A Talking Dog, so Kory doesn’t have to think that hard when dressing these kids.

Then Sfé writes and thumbnails the entire comic. The particular panel we’re focusing on for this post has been highlighted and the rest is blurry because it is a SECRET. Hee hee!

When Kory gets the script she starts a-drawin’. She uses the thumbnails to sketch out the panels.

Inking!

Words!

And done!

As you can probably guess by now, there is a NEW WEIRD PETS comic in the works! We will hopefully have it done by the time Stumptown rolls around in April, and you’ll be able to buy both Dragon Fruit (Is Gross) AND Not a Talking Dog in adorable little mini-sized comics!!!

I hope you found this interesting. Thanks for reading!
